A Brief History

Rose Thompson, owner

Thank you for visiting our web site. Its my pleasure to give a brief history of the development of our acreage since 1971.

With a house trailer big enough for our family of four to live in comfortably, we began the first stages of developing our property, which was back in 1971 grass land and forest. We had two horses of our own so we started with a two stall barn with a large fenced in field. Once the horses were comfortable, we began work on our own residence, which four months later we moved into. Over the next year my husband, Ed, had completed moving our family business (Thompson Aluminum) on to the property.

My own personal enjoyment of boarding and caring for horses developed into a long term goal of planning and and eventually completing a full service equestrian centre that would be comfortable and happy not just horses but their owners too.

With much planning and building over the past 20 years we have reached our goal of providing our boarders horses with the freedom of walk out stalls, shelters and spacious paddocks, along with adding a gate at the end of each paddock that connects to additional turn out space for their enjoyment. Summerwinds is now home to more than 18 wonderful horses and ponies. For the owners and our enjoyment too, we built a comfortable lounge area with a viewing sun deck, bathroom, large closet lockers, feed areas with hot water, and a small kitchen.

2004 was a big year for projects with both outside rings being resurfaced, and the addition of our new indoor arena. All our outside rings and our round pen have lighting for night riding. Our large outdoor, and our new indoor also had sprinkler systems added. Finally, for those who love to bring their dogs to the barn, we added a large dog run, so that they too can be outside and stretch their legs and enjoy the fresh air.

In closing, a special thank you to all our clients, family, friends, employees and construction traders who have shared in our journey.
